If you’re considering becoming a real estate agent, you may be wondering how long the process takes, start to finish. From completing course hours to passing your exam and submitting your application, the time will depend on your state’s requirements, the real estate school you choose, and how motivated you are.
Real Estate School (In Person vs. Online)
The first step in obtaining your real estate license is to choose a school where you will take your required courses. There are two types of real estate schools, traditional and online. Before choosing a school, think through your learning style. Are you someone who is self-motivated and wants to complete courses at your own schedule or are you someone who needs the accountability of in-person classes?
The type of real estate school you choose will determine how long it takes to get your license. A traditional real estate school with in-person classes will take more time than an online program where you can complete classes at your own pace. In-person courses may take months to complete where online courses can be completed in a matter of weeks.
The Beer School of Real Estate offers a 90-hour pre-licensing course available in-person and online. Our classes are taught two nights, each week, for 13 weeks by instructors with over 30 years experience in the field. Our students pass with a much higher percentage of first-time exam takers and we assist in pairing new real estate agents with brokerages.
Real Estate License Exam And Application Process
All states are different when it comes to the real estate licensing exam and application process, which means the time it takes will vary. Some states could provide your test results on site along with a temporary license, while in other states you’ll have to wait to receive your license in the mail. You may need to be sponsored by a real estate broker before even taking the exam, depending on your state’s requirements.
In order to find out your state’s policies when it comes to getting your real estate license, look up your state’s real estate commission website to learn more.
You’re In Control
No matter what state you live in, you’re ultimately in control of your real estate license. If you are determined to get your license, set a goal date for yourself and find what works best for you. Everyone’s timing will be different so don’t be discouraged if it takes you a little longer than it does for someone else.
